Many Bow Valley College, Calgary, Canada, students are devastated after an immigrant woman who was studying English was apparently found frozen to death last week.
Sources said the woman, believed to be 37, was a mother and student originally from Sudan studying English as a second language.
Bow Valley director Katherine Cormack said students are grieving the loss.
She could not offer any details regarding the student, but said news of her death has shocked many at the close-knit campus.
"It certainly hits the community hard," she said yesterday. "We are a family here.
"We share our deepest sympathies with her family, friends and the community."
Counsellors are available for students trying to help those struggling with the news, Cormack said.
"Anytime someone who is in the midst of studies, whatever age they might be, are stopped short of reaching a goal -- and there's something incredibly sad about that," she said. "You feel for those involved."
The woman was reported missing on Feb. 6 and found by a friend outside a home on 39 St. S.E. the next day, sources said.
A medical examiner at the scene ruled the death as accidental and natural. An autopsy will be conducted.

What a sad thing to happen. May God rest her soul in peace and grant her forgiveness.

The storm has been really bad all across the Midwest and Northeast in the US as well as parts of Canada. It's the largest snow storm this winter.

Please everyone, if you live in affected areas, be careful out there and postpone or minimize travel and outside activities until the roads clear of all the snow.

Also, check on people you know, especially if they are new to the cold climate, and offer them help and advice if needed.

Within a city limit, it is unheard of for a 37 year old plus to die of the extreem weather. It is usually the extreem ages, the very young and the very old that succumbs to the cold weather unless ofcourse one is strandded in un inhabitted area. Therefore I hope the medical examiners conclution is medical and after a thorough autopsy result, Iam always suspoecous of some odd, incongruent explanations when speciqally given in relation to immigrants.
May her family be comforted!

May she RIP.

It hasn't been storming out here but the cold is been extreme:tears:

Chuchu you are right, it is the very young and old might be prunned to such incidents but this young lady might not been properly dressed and it really doesn't take that long or that far to get to such tragics, rare but it is heard of quite often. Most immigrants specifically the new comers don't know how to dress for these kind of weather also there are ways to equippe oneself in such extreme weathers while driving alone. ex. having candles and lighters and on.

Also one thing that is making suspicious is the weather with in Calgary can't be that extreame because they got shinooks out there, so really wierd. gets cold but doesn't stick around for that long. Much milder than the rest of the prairies.

May She Rest In PEACE.

Did anyone follow up on the autopsy? Did she lock herself out?
