SPLM Political Bureau to Discuss the Movement Structure

Thursday 8 February 2007 Khartoum (Sudanvisiondaily)
SPLM Political Bureau will hold a meeting today, February 8th in Juba, to determine the movement’s stances in respect of issues prevailing on the political arena. It aims also at setting a road map for its relations with political forces including its main partner in GoNU, NCP, in addition to discussing performance of its Executive Authority in the South as well as its representatives in the Federal Executive Organs.
The meeting will discuss the present structure of SPLM which divides the movement into two: north and south sectors, with the aim of replacing it with a unified structure that divides Sudan into (25) units under the leadership of Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit.
This meeting will witness approval of many Ministerial amendments in SPLM posts in GoNU, the most significant of which is the transfer of Dr. Lam Akol from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs the portfolio of which is currently held by Deng Alor Kuol who will be moved to Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On the other hand, Dr. Tabitha Butrous will move from the Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Higher Education while Prof. Peter Nyot Kok will be discharged together with State Ministers in Interior and Presidency, Alio Ayong Alio and Telar Reng Deng.
Ministerial amendments will also be made in GoSS. Sources revealed that Minister of Finance in GoSS, Arthur Akwein is the most likely who will be discharged from GoSS.
All those developments will coincide with SPLM admitting presence of corruption in GoSS and the presence of internal problems. Juba town had previously witnessed unrest among SPLA due to delay in salary payment. In addition to that there is the issue of exchange of accusations of corruption among southern leaderships. They are waiting now for results of investigations by the Samson Kwaje Committee. These are about the complaints raised by GoSS Minister of Finance, Arthur Akwein to Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir about the accusations made against him by SPLM Secretary-General Pagan Amom. The latter had held him responsible for embezzling the (60) million dollars revealed by President Al-Bashir in his address in Juba. The Samson Committee will leave during the coming days for Nairobi to finish the investigations started in Juba.
