Muslims should NOT be targeting OTHER MUSLIMS!
Muslims should NOT be deliberately targeting civilian non-combatants.
Muslims should NOT be targeting masajid (or other places of worship).
Muslims should NOT be motivated by asabiyah (sectarianism, tribalism, nationalism, or any other ism).
Muslims should NOT be deliberately destroying the civilian infrastructure (the very thing that their own people need in order to survive)!
Fight in the cause of ALLAH those who fight you, but do not transgress the limits; for ALLAH does not love transgressors..." (Qur'an, Surah 2:190)
"Set out for jihad in the name of Allah and for the sake of ALLAH (alone). Do not lay hands on the old verging on death, on women, children and babes. Such a spirit of selflessness should be inculcated in the minds of those who unfortunately lack it. Be firm in the thick of battle. ALLAH helps man according to the perseverance that he shows in the cause of his faith; and he will be rewarded in accordance with the spirit of sacrifice which he displays for the sake of his Lord. Be careful that those who have been entrusted to your care (as captives of war) receive no harm at your hands, and are never deprived of any of their legitimate rights." - Caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab, the second successor of the Prophet, giving instructions, in a letter, to one of his military commanders. "Three classes of men are cut off from the blessing of Paradise: the oppressors; those who aid and abet oppression; and those who tolerate oppression." - Caliph Ali ibn abu-Talib, the fourth of the "rightly guided successors" of the Prophet Mohammed (may Allah be pleased with them all).
