TEHRAN, March 2--Iran and Sudan signed 7 agreements to expand mutual ties and issued a joint statement on Thursday, at the end of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s two-day official visit to Khartoum.
President Ahmadinejad’s visit was in response to the invitation of his Sudanese counterpart Omar Hassan Ahmad Al-Bashir, IRNA reported.
Iran and Sudan signed agreements on industrial and mining cooperation, as well as environment. They also signed documents on technical and vocational training programs as well as cooperation between the two countries’ coroner’s offices.
The two presidents said all bilateral agreements and MoUs should be implemented to prepare the ground for further expansion of economic and trade exchanges.
During the visit, the Iranian and Sudanese delegations headed by Ahmadinejad and Bashir held two rounds of official talks on bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues.
Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the current level of ties and urged the need for further efforts to broaden and strengthen ties.
The Iranian president welcomed the agreement signed on southern Sudan and the progress achieved in its implementation, urging the need to solve the Darfur issue through talks between all groups involved and cooperation of regional countries.
Ahmadinejad declared his readiness to render any type of assistance in this respect.
For his part, the Sudanese president criticized the double standards of some countries toward others on the world scene and supported Iran’s nuclear right.
“Iran’s nuclear issue should be dealt with in the framework of the UN nuclear watchdog and should be solved through diplomatic ways with no preconditions,“ Bashir said.
Both sides reiterated the need for unity among Muslims and redoubling efforts for enhancing cooperation and solidarity among Muslim countries in political, economic, cultural and social fields to confront the threats posed against them.
Ahmadinejad invited his Sudanese counterpart to visit Tehran in future, which was accepted by Bashir.
